Science-Based Targets
4 April 2024
🎯 WHAT ARE SCIENCE-BASED TARGETS (SBTs)?
SBTs are emission reduction goals set by companies in alignment with climate science, aiming to limit global temperature rise and foster a sustainable, low-carbon future. 📈💡
Most importantly they’re measurable, actionable, and time-bound objectives.
Over 4,000 businesses have already set emissions reduction targets under the @ScienceBasedTargetsInitiative (SBTi).
🌿 5 STEPS TO SETTING SBTs
1. COMMIT: Make a public commitment to set SBTs.
2. DEFINE: Use the SBTi’s criteria to define your targets, referring to sector specific guidance as needed. Collaboration is key when setting targets. Engage stakeholders internally and externally to gather insights.
3. VALIDATE: Submit your targets for validation by the SBTi to ensure they align with the latest climate science and meet all requirements. The SBTi will provide in-depth feedback with your validation decision.
4. COMMUNICATE: Announce your target publicly to your stakeholders.
5. DISCLOSE: Report on your progress towards your targets annually.
