business & Human Rights

Do you know what your responsibility is as a business to respect human rights?

The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) are a set of 31 principles designed to help companies respect human rights across their operations.

They are built on three core pillars: the state's duty to protect human rights, the corporate responsibility to respect human rights, and access to remedy for those harmed by business activities.

While they’re often associated with large corporations, these principles are also crucial for SMEs.

HOW CAN SMEs IMPLEMENT THE UNGPS?

1. Conduct a human rights assessment to identify your potential impact

2. Develop a clear policy that reflects your commitment to human rights

3. Implement due diligence processes to address identified risks

4. Engage with stakeholders to foster a collaborative approach to human rights

5. Establish grievance mechanisms to resolve issues and provide access to remedy

By embracing the UNGPs, SMEs can drive sustainable growth while contributing to a business environment that respects human rights 🌎

Let’s work together to create more ethical and responsible businesses 🤝
