✨ “We believe that the design stage is the single most important stage for sustainable consideration and informs the product’s carbon footprint, or embodied carbon” ✨

Modus are another brand doing fantastic work in the interiors space.

We are inspired by how Modus share their expertise and experience, something it would be great to see more of! Modus’ Sustainability Manager
Lucy Crane (PIEMA) and Lucy Arndt, Head of Sustainability at Dodds & Shute. led a webinar on carbon footprinting a piece of furniture as part of NYCxDESIGN 2023 festival, in which they shared many valuable insights.

Here were their 5 takeaways on getting started on a carbon-positive journey:
1. Carbon calculations reveal surprising carbon culprits.
2. To calculate the carbon footprint of a piece of furniture, understand its materials.
3. A single material or design choice can make a big difference in carbon impact.
4. There are many ways to cut down on carbon emissions when designing - or selecting - furniture with regeneration and circularity in mind.
5. Action can start with asking questions, which in turn prompts action.
