Future fabrics expo

Discovering the materials of tomorrow at Future Fabrics Expo 🌿✨
Future Fabrics Expo really is THE place to learn about sustainable materials and fabrics for the future. With thousands of fabrics on display, fascinating talks, inspiring brands, and incredible visuals and statistics around the venue, it’s hard to condense everything we learned into one post! Congratulations to Nina Marenzi and the The Sustainable Angle team for another amazing year 🌟
We learn about what it will take to scale next-gen innovations from Nicole Rycroft from @canopyplanet, Frans Jooste from Fashion for Good, Sucharu Uppal from Birla Cellulose, Emily Mackintosh from European Environmental Bureau, and Gagan Bansal from H&M Group.
🔑 Supporting Scale Up is Key: How can brands and industries unite to support innovators, providing them with commitments and certainty?
💡 Shifting Perceptions: How can we convince customers that premiums for more responsibly produced goods are justifiable in an era of fast fashion and low prices?
🎯 Internal Goals: Have you set goals and targets to align and motivate your team? These can help to get the backing needed for adoption of next-gen innovations.
Later in the day we joined a session on the future of luxury with Sara Vaughan, Pierre Gomy from Kantar, Arizona Muse from DIRT Charity, @Vincent Smith from Mr Smith Paris and Federico Rodríguez Tarditi from Parley for the Oceans. The panel shared great takeaways for both luxury and non-luxury brands:
👗 Design and Desirability: Younger generations are consuming more luxury goods while also caring more about sustainability – this creates an opportunity for luxury brands to bring together design and desirability to achieve enhanced outcomes for people and planet.
🥳 Celebrate Progress Not Plans: Brands need to steer clear of congratulate themselves on setting targets – save celebrations for once programmes have been delivered and progress is made.
👚 Redefining Value: We need to have more respect for garments and redefine value beyond just financial terms – what is the environmental and social cost of our purchases?
🌍 Embed Purpose: Sustainability should be a core part of business strategy, not an afterthought.
🤝 Authenticity Matters: Brands should strive for sincerity, authenticity, and transparency to encourage behaviour change.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s expo!
